So, its all over, Season One is done.  That leaves us with another six to go.  The arc which they seem to have tried to bolt onto the stories concerns a "temporal" cold war and a bunch of new baddies who, like much about this Star Trek Prequel, we haven't seen anywhere else.

There have been some nice moments.  The effects are good, the acting ok and there are some interesting characters in there but, and here it comes, the first season simply hasn't done it for me.  There have been a lot of "bottle" episodes, probably to save money, and there has been too little regard for what is to come in terms of the Star Trek cannon.  This suggests to me that we're going to see some kind of annoying time travel McGuffin which will cancel out the previous 7 years.  The last episode simply reeks of Quantum Leap.

Other more serious gripes; the transporter as plot device is really bugging me, much in the same way that K9 annoyed me in Doctor Who.  I would have preferred that they didn't have the transporter yet and certainly it shouldn't be used for people, still, maybe they will slow down on this and write better in coming seasons...  yeah, right!   The Enterprise herself looks too "modern" for me, I'd have preferred something much much more basic - there are plenty of designs in various ST "histories" so why not use one of them?  Why introduce lots of aliens who we haven't seen before who all live within 90 light years or so of Earth?  Oh, I could go on.

In general I give this season a bare 4/10 with urgings to try much harder.  There have been some cracking stories with excellent plot potential - in particular the ones with the hostility between the Andorians and the Vulcans - that's stuff I want to see more of, the things which show us how we got to Kirk, Picard et al.  The time travel stuff is worn out, let it die and get on with some real adventures - surely there are more interesting things they can do?
