Stunningly good read, one of Reynolds best so far. Big vision stuff and, by rights, a strong contender for next year's Hugo list.
Reviews
This is going to be a badly maintained area for handling things when we take them off the Reading Widget. I wanted to make sure we had something to store and edit reviews and this is going to be it.

I loved Inferno to bits. It might have been because I was younger and the interwebs didn't exist so I hadn't come across Pournelle as the political loon he appears to be.
From a writing perspective it's well-written, reasonably tightly plotted but there the book and I departed company.
Too many polemics on Science, especially Pournelle's bugbear of climate science, Politics and other similar stuff and the core message about the nature of Sin, and an excellent sub-plot on the trouble that Vatican 2 has played with the conventional classification system are lost in fairly nasty digs at people who obviously dared to disagree with the pair of them.
I found the whole thing distasteful and barely worthy of a school playground.

Read this purely on the basis of enjoying the HBO Series and I liked the book too. Let's be clear here, this is fluff. Fun fluff, and less annoying than the Anita Blake stories have become. It's also interesting to see how they've changed things with the TV series too. Anyway, a good series to have around in the event of down time.
